Douglas Shire Economic Development 

The four year Douglas Shire Council Strategy has been designed to lay the foundations to achieve important medium to long term economic goals for the Shire.

The document helps guide our region to a sustainable, innovative and prosperous future. The Corporate Strategy for 2019-2022 is currently in development.

 

Advance Cairns is the peak regional economic development organisation for Tropical North Queensland.

Working collaboratively with all levels of governments and industry, Advance Cairns advocates for catalytic economic infrastructure and policy priorities and is the coordinating body for delivery of Tropical North Queensland Region’s long term economic vision.

The TTNQ Strategic Marketing Plan outlines the strategic direction for 2015 – 2020.  TTNQ follows modelling developed by Tourism Australia (by Access Economics and Marketing Strategists BDA 2010). This focuses on our potential to capture a larger share of domestic and outbound international markets for countries seen as the most profitable prospects.

An analysis of the valued added by industry sectors in Douglas Shire Council in 2015/16 shows the three largest industries were:

Transport, Postal and Warehousing ($112 million or 13.7%)
Accommodation and Food Services ($82 million or 10.0%)
Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services ($61 million or 7.5%)
